When Jan and Kirstine moved in 2010 to Dambækgaard, Jan created the farm’s Facebook page and named it “a sustainable farm”.
Back then, everyone asked us, “What does that mean?” Fortunately, more and more people now have an idea of what it means, and the couples make a great effort to spread the knowledge and understanding of what it means to live sustainably.
The original naming shows how important the sustainable approach has been and still is to the farm.
We usually say: “We don’t think about sustainable adjustments and upgrades to the farm because it has always been part of our DNA from the very moment we moved in.” This is visible in all the choices we make and have made. They have all been made with a high awareness of the environment and social responsibility.
Initially, we decided not to get the organic certification. We didn’t feel we needed it since we lived organic anyway, but in later years, we have become aware of how important it is to have the right kind of certifications regarding our communication. This is why we are currently working on getting the organic and Green Key certifications.
✔️ Energy and water consumption with a direct encouragement to our guests to save their consumption on both power and water. Furthermore, all showers, taps, and toilets have low-water functions installed.
✔️ Minimizing food waste by letting all thinkable leftovers be used as food for pigs and chickens.
✔️ Sorting waste. We’re doing our best to ensure that our guests, volunteers, and staff use the right bins for the right sort of litter.
✔️ In our efforts to reduce paper usage, we have digitized all our invoicing and made our welcome letters and practical information available as QR codes. This not only saves trees but also makes information more accessible and convenient for our guests.
✔️ We prioritize local producers for the things we can’t produce ourselves, such as animal food, cooking produce, and building materials. This not only supports local businesses but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with long-distance transportation.
✔️ We only serve organic European wine our import to reduce overseas transport.
✔️ We encourage all our guest to bring their linen and towels to reduce the wear and tear on linen used for just one or two nights.
✔️ All certified organic cleaning products and no fabric softener are added to the laundry.
✔️ and so much more…..
